Jim Small led off and he ripped a base-knock. Pyburn got a great jump and stole second easily. stolen base. Alvin Dark stepped in and he would hit into a fielders choice which scored a run. Two outs later Willie Mays came up and he was walked intentionally. Rance Pless contributed to the rally and drew a walk to load the bases. Gene Stephens followed and he drew a walk
giving victory as 26,226 happy fans celebrated wildly. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. The victory was credited to Vern Law(5-2) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. Bob Miller(7-8) was given the loss in relief. Game 2
