Norm Cash smashed 2 homeruns at Municipal Stadium as the
Carolina Grays staged
a comeback win over the
Pittsburgh Crawfords by the count of 15 to
12.
Carolina
had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning when they
scored 5 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Cash who
disappointed the
partisan crowd when he launched
a Grand Slam homerun (his 28th of the
season). Carolina
bats were very productive in the 6th inning when they had
7 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning which saw them plate
5 runs on 4 hits.
This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead
changed hands 5
times.
Ray Moore(5-1) went 1 inning
allowing no runs for the win. Sandy Koufax got
the save, his 2nd. Marty Kutyna(2-4) suffered the loss in relief.
Raymond Grasing was all smiles
after the game, 'To pull a game out in your
last at bats, is a beautiful
feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out
there? You could have heard a
pin drop when we took the lead. But,
hey,
that's what makes baseball so
great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says,
'it's not over 'til its over.'

Norm Siebern had 4 hits and 5
RBI at Forbes Field where the Peoria Chiefs beat
the Mount Pleasant Mad Dogs by
the score of 21 to 12.
Siebern enjoyed a great day at
the plate. He stroked a single in the
1st
inning, lost the ball over the
fence for three runs (his 15th of the season)
in the 6th inning, laced a
base-knock which plated a run in the 7th inning
and delivered a one-base hit
resulting in a run in the 9th inning. Peoria
bats were hot in the 6th inning
which saw them plate 6 runs on 5 hits, the
7th inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits and the 9th
inning with 4 runs on 4
hits. Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Mount Pleasant could not
get
the win.
Jug Gerard(3-2) went 5 innings
allowing 9 runs for the win. Harvey Haddix
earned the save, his 1st. The loss was charged to Dick Farrell(12-2). He
was unable to control the Peoria offense and
allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 5
and 1/3 innings.

Ralph Terry(7-3) and Pedro
Ramos(3-6) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with
Terry and the Des Moines Dusters coming out on top of the
Atlantic City
Diamond Aces 1 to 0.
The game's only run was scored in the 2nd inning. Orlando
Cepeda banged out a
single. After an out was recorded, Elston Howard came up and he cracked a
solo homerun (his 5th of the
season). The early run support proved
sufficient for Terry and Des Moines. That was all the run support Terry
required. Atlantic
City threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.
John Buzhardt earned his 13th
save. 'We lose our concentration for one
pitch,
and we lose the game.' Wayne Foulke said after the game.
'Maybe now these
guys will listen when I say they
have to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'
