Harmon Killebrew smacked 2
homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Kansas City Athletics
staged a dramatic comeback over
the Peoria Chiefs by a score of 7 to 5 at
Yankee Stadium.
Kansas City
came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
using 3 hits. After two were out Felix Mantilla initiated
the scoring spurt
when he delivered a single. Mickey Mantle was next and he laced a one-base
hit, and an error was also
committed. Killebrew
then smacked a three-run
homer (his 2nd of the
season). Kansas City totaled 12 on the night.
The victory went to Marshall Bridges(1-0)
who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing
1 run. Jim Umbricht
was credited with his 1st save. Roy Face(0-1) was the
loser in relief.
Killebrew said, 'It was just
all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
tonight. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when
you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a
little bit - right in my zone.'
