of a Homerun!
In a great finish the North Bend Tadjers
came back in the top of the ninth and
held on to win over the Kansas
City Athletics by a score of 11 to 8 at
Municipal Stadium.
North Bend bats came
alive with a big top of the 9th inning as they ripped
Kansas City
for 8 runs on 6 hits. The key offensive
moment was provided by
Johnny Callison who
disappointed the partisan crowd when he delivered a
base-hit plating two runs. North Bend had 13 hits for the game and Kansas
City had 10.
The victory went to Bob Gibson(1-0)
who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Bill
Henry was credited with his 31st save. Gerry Staley(4-9)
took the loss in
relief.
Keith Bessinger was not very
talkative after his team's tough loss.
'I'm not
in the mood for questions, but
I'm sure Derek Lipson will be glad to talk
about the game as long as you
have questions to ask.'

Carolina
fans certainly got their money's worth at Seals Stadium. Milt
Pappas(8-9) pitched a rare
no-hitter as the Carolina Grays toppled the
Potomac Fighting Dems 2 to 0.
Pappas was spectacular.
He walked 2 Potomac batters. The Carolina
players
and coaches started to leave
Pappas alone with his thoughts after the game
reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you
could
hear a pin drop every time he
went to his wind-up - and an explosion after
every out. Carolina
had just 6 hits for the afternoon.
Robin Roberts(8-15) took the
loss. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings.
'Pappas made us look bad' Chris McMurry
said. 'I've seen a lot of good
performances in my time and this
one will be tucked away in my memory bank
for a long time to come' b-0

and had 2 RBI as the Carolina Grays beat the

Clevenger was perfect in relief and gained credit for his
1st save.
Barry Latman(2-3) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up

Lu Clinton blasted 3 homeruns as the Potomac Fighting Dems defeated the Des
Moines Dusters by a score of 11 to 5 at Memorial Stadium.
Clinton was a source of
great heartache for the Des Moines
faithful all day.
He just kept pounding out hits! He hit a bases-empty home
run in the 2nd
inning, delivered a solo blast
in the 7th inning and lofted a solo-blast
'downtown' (his 3rd of the
season) in the 8th inning. Potomac had 16 hits
overall, while Des Moines had 9.
Bob Grim(1-0) was the winner
allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Steve
Barber(0-1) suffered the
loss. He was touched for 5 hits and 2
walks in 2
innings.
Clinton
was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the
ball real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they
are paying
off. That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes
along.'
