Hill Valley Makes it Three Straight
World Series MVP Pedro Ramos
1960 AARBL World Series MVP Pedro Ramos
For the third consecutive season, the Peoria Chiefs and the Hill Valley Lightning Bolts met in the AARBL World Series.  Unfortunately for Peoria, the 1960 World Series was no different than the previous two as Hill Valley won in decisive fashion.  During the regular season, Peoria had cruised to the Eastern Division crown, winning 107 games, and bested the rival Wilmington Hornets by 35 games.  In the West, Hill Valley's road was not quite as easy as it staged a tough battle down the stretch with the upstart North Bend Tadjers, but ultimately the Bolts registered 101 wins and took the division by 8 games.  In the series, for the second consecutive season, Hill Valley defeated Peoria 4 games to 2.  The Bolts were led offensively by Roger Maris, who hit .318 for the series with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs and Mickey Mantle, who hit 2 home runs with 7 RBIs.  Leading the Hill Valley staff was World Series MVP Pedro Ramos who was 2-0 with a 2.08 E.R.A.  Peoria was led by outfielder Richie Ashburn, who hit .476, with 5 RBIs.

During the regular season, the Chiefs won the Eastern Division by 35 games over the Wilmington Hornets.  In the Western Division, Hill Valley won its third consecutive division championship by 8 games over the North Bend Tadjers.  The league was paced offensively by Babe Ruth Award winner Ernie Banks of the Oneonta Tigers, who hit .275 with 102 runs scored, 131 RBIs, and a league best 58 HRs.  Chiefs outfielder Willie Mays, who hit .341 with 29 HRs, 117 RBIs, and 50 stolen bases, Hill Valley's Mickey Mantle (.305, 34 HRs, 116 RBI) and Hank Aaron of the Kansas City Athletics (.295, 53 HRs, 140 RBI) also had tremendous offensive seasons.  On the pitching side, Chuck Estrada of the North Bend Tadjers won Rookie of the Year, and Vern Law of Peoria won both the MVP and Cy Young Awards as he posted a 30-1 record with a 1.92 E.R.A.  Teammate Roy Face was the Rolaids Reliever, and Milt Pappas of Carolina threw the season's only no hitter.

their team's expense.  He bombed a two-run dinger in the 3rd inning, doubled

in the 7th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 2nd of the

season) in the 9th inning.  Peoria was out-hit by Hill Valley, 14 hits to 7.

The Hill Valley Lightning Bolts had very little trouble at New York downing

the Peoria Chiefs.  The score was 8 to 1.

Hill Valley went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on

2 hits.  Roger Maris led off the inning for Hill Valley when he slapped a

base-hit.  Pancho Herrera stepped up to the plate and he tripled driving in a

run.  Del Crandall then would ground out scoring the final run of the inning.

That early run support was enough for Sam Jones(1-0) and Hill Valley.  Hill

Valley ended up with 11 hits for the game while Peoria had 7.

Larry Jackson(0-1) was charged with the loss.  He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings

allowing 9 hits and 5 walks.
