Willie Mays had 2 base hits as the Peoria Chiefs staged a
dramatic comeback
over the Hill Valley Lightning
Bolts by a score of 4 to 3 at Yankee
Stadium.
Peoria came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of
the 9th inning with 2
runs utilizing 2 base hits. Mays led off and he delivered a one-base hit.
Mays got a good lead and stole second. After an out was recorded, Minnie
Minoso stepped up to the plate
and he was walked intentionally. Bob
Lillis
stepped in and he stroked a
single, and an error was also committed, giving
Peoria the win much to the delight of
the home town crowd. Peoria
rapped out
7 hits for the afternoon.
Roy Face(1-0) got the win
allowing no runs in 1 inning. Barry Latman(0-1)
ended up with the loss in
relief. Face and Mays were really
whooping it up
in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory. As Michael
Tricarico noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for
a team's attitude.'
Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even
you guys - it's
better than winning by a dozen
runs!'
