Ray Boone had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the So Cal Knights
outscored the Peoria
Chiefs 7 to 6.
Peoria never recovered after So Cal took the lead in the
top of the 2nd inning
as they scored 3 runs on 3 base
hits. The big moment was provided by Gus
Triandos who silenced the crowd
when he clubbed a three-run home run (his 2nd
of the season). Despite losing, Peoria out-hit So Cal 15 to
11.
Don Newcombe(1-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Billy Muffett earned his 2nd save. Willard Nixon(0-1)
was charged
with the loss. He was knocked around by So Cal, allowing 10
hits and 4 walks
in 5 and 1/3 innings.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Newcombe said.
