Chiefs by the score of 10 to 8. So Cal bats came alive with a big 8th inning when they
blasted Peoria for 9 runs on 7 hits. The key at-bat was by Bob Nieman
who deflated the crowd as he doubled plating two
runs. Warren Hacker relieved and was
untouched by Peoria as he recorded the save, his 1st. The victory went to Al Sima(1-0) who went 1 inning,
allowing 2 runs. Mickey McDermott(2-2) was hit with the
loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an
inning giving up 6 hits and 3 walks.

inning. 1st inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits and the
4th inning plating 5 runs. Murray Dickson(8-12) went 7
innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Jack Harshman(11-10) took the loss.

off right when he stroked a one-base hit. Mickey Mantle stepped up to the plate and he tripled
plating a run. Sid Gordon then drew a walk.
After an out was recorded, Solly Hemus came to the plate and lined a base-hit
giving celebrated wildly. Allie Reynolds(4-1) went 1
inning allowing no runs for the victory. The losing pitcher was Jim Davis(0-2) in

Peoria scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Ted Kluszewski started the inning off right when he lined a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Alvin Dark stepped in and he slapped a base-hit. Dark took second on the throw. Carl Furillo then clubbed a three-run home run (his 4th of the season) giving Peoria the victory as 62,023 happy fans celebrated wildly. Peoria and Des Moines each finished the night with 11 hits.
